Funding Opportunity: AmeriCorps 2011 Grant Opportunities in Education, Fact Sheet and Application Available!

The Promise Neighborhoods Institute is committed to providing all communities interested in creating their own Promise Neighborhood with grant and funding opportunities as they come to us!

For this upcoming year,  the 2011 AmeriCorps “funding will give priority to applicants that address compelling unmet needs in six areas: education, healthy futures, clean energy/environment, veterans, economic opportunity, and disaster services.” (Click here forAmeriCorps Education Fact Sheet).

Groups that are eligible include non-profit organizations, institutions of higher education, state education agencies, Indian tribes, and local government entities including counties and cities. Applications are due January 25, 2011 at 5pm ET.

For example, The Harlem Children’s Zone, the model for the Promise Neighborhoods program, utilizes 119 full-time and 19 part-time AmeriCorps members to facilitate “in-class and after school literacy-based and conflict resolution training for children in Harlem elementary schools, tutor, mentor, instruct in computer skills, improve awareness of health and nutrition, and counsel and support children and families.”
