PolicyLink President: “It is unconscionable to allow this many Americans to live in poverty”

PolicyLink president Judith Bell poses some hard-hitting questions about poverty for reporters on the Nieman Watchdog.

In light of the new census numbers, and the projected diversification of America–with big increases in people of color over the next twenty years–Bell affirms that it is more important than ever to invest in communities of color that face real disparities because “America succeeds only insofar as these communities succeed.”

We know Promise Neighborhoods are great investments in children growing up in distressed communities today so that we can strengthen the workforce of tomorrow (and lead to healthier, happier communities). And the Senate knows it, too!

It’s great to see Bell bringing this issue to the attention of reporters so that elected officials and community leaders can begin to answer the tough questions. Read the full piece here.
