The Promise Neighborhoods program receives standalone legislation!
Last week, Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) introduced standalone legislation to support the work of the Promise Neighborhoods program! The Promise Neighborhoods Authorization Act of 2015 will authorize the inclusion of the Promise Neighborhoods program into the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and provide underserved children and families with access to communities of opportunity. Senators Al Franken (D-MN), Patty Murray (D-WA), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) are co-sponsors of this bill.
We applaud Senator Murphy for championing the efforts of all communities implementing the Promise Neighborhoods strategy to create communities where all children are safe, healthy, and connected to opportunity and quality education systems.
Signaling continued support from the White House, President Obama has requested $150 million for Promise Neighborhoods programs in his proposed budget for fiscal year 2016.Every child deserves a Promise Neighborhood. Today we are one step closer to securing this vision for all.
Join us in thanking Senator Murphy, and Senators Franken, Murray, Blumenthal and Brown for championing Promise Neighborhoods!
